• The Prinz von Hessen wine estate, located in the town of Johannisberg in the small German wine-growing region of the Rheingau, is one of the most significant Riesling producers in Germany and has been a member of the German quality winegrowers association VDP since his founding. International and domestic recognition reflects the excellence in quality of the wines and sparkling wines. Prinz von Hessen’s Riesling grapes flourish in some of the best vineyard sites the Rheingau has to offer, amongst them Klaus in the town of Johannisberg, and Hasensprung and Jesuitengarten in Winkel. 95% of the cultivation is devoted to the Riesling grape.

  • The Prinz von Hessen estate was founded by the nobleman’s family in 1957, selecting the quaint town of Johannisberg which has been world-renowned for its first-class Rieslings for centuries. Riesling provides its own proof that there is indeed no other place where this grape can grow better, at exactly the 50th parallel of north latitude. The wines are the mirror image of this ancient cultural landscape of the Rheingau.

  • Situated in the gently rolling foothills of the Taunus Mountains, the Johannisberg vineyards are amongst the best in the Rheingau. Nurturing this treasure and enabling the terroir to bring out its true expression in our wines, year after year, is our passion. We take this job very seriously and are consistently rewarded with delicious grapes. Applying all the rules of the art of winemaking, we vinify these grapes to become elegant, long-lasting wines.

  • Being open-minded and future-oriented, being on the cutting edge of creativity, requires a deep recognition of the foundations of the past. Where, if not in the Rheingau boasting 1000 years of wine history, do progress and continuity combine to form such a tasteful unit? At the Prinz von Hessen estate it is a matter of basic principle that these aspects form the cornerstone for every wine. This is reflected in our stately array of highest quality, carefully maintained, large wooden barrels paralleled by multiple stainless steel tanks in varying sizes, guaranteeing the individual vinification of each single vineyard lot. The combined possibilities of traditional and modern fermentation and maturation vessels allow the treasures of our unique array of vineyards to unfold to their truest potential.
